Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Non-Diabetic Adults: Variability as a Longevity Biomarker
Singh A, Mehra A, Joshi V, et al. · Diabetes Care · 2023
Abstract
In 412 non-diabetic adults wearing CGM for 14 days, post-prandial glucose variability (CV) above 36% was associated with elevated inflammatory markers and reduced HRV, independent of HbA1c.
Why this matters
HbA1c misses the most metabolically informative data: the glucose excursions that happen between meals.
Results
CV > 36% predicted a 1.8x risk of meeting metabolic syndrome criteria within 24 months, even in patients with normal fasting glucose and HbA1c.
